Good evening bloggers! This morning I picked up our friend Sara who just arrived from the States and took her and the puppies to Saint Joris. We walked a new loop today that went thru some of the most beautiful areas in Curacao. Early into the walk we heard this screeching noise coming from high above our heads and looked up to see two big birds of prey the size of eagles literally floating in mid air. I thought they were just Cara-Cara’s and they were so far above us that it was impossible to tell. Well when I got home and looked at the photos I discovered we just saw some of the rarest birds on the island. These are White Tailed Hawks and from what I learned there are less than 10 breading pairs on the island and less than two pairs on Aruba and Bonaire! Cool huh? I found out that they build nests in the tallest cactus so we are now going back out this week to begin the search for the nest. As we continued our hike towards the ocean I shot a fun cactus panoramic and also came across a beautiful American Kestrel sitting in a cactus right along the trail. We hung out with him for a bit until we got distracted with other birds and even an area filled with caves, it was turning out to be a great morning. I took Sara to our little beach with all the junk, we even found the same Curacao hat that was still there from last week when I took that silly shot of Indi laying behind it. My find of the day was a nice yellow bucket! It’s a guy thing! I have had friends in the States that would be driving down the interstate at 75mph and spot a bucket along side the rode during a blizzard and go back for it, they mean that much to us! I even once saw an experiment where they asked 25 guys what would you rather have, a night out with a beautiful woman or a dozen buckets?? I think all of them took the women but hours later wished they had taken the buckets! Seriously ladies if you are ever lost on what to get your man, grab a bucket and watch his eyes light up!! Sara found it funny that I was so excited out the bucket today but they are so useful. After our treasure hunting at the beach we continued our hike stopping only to check for any more kitty’s at the top of the mountain but none were to be found. After a brief search we worked our way back down the slippery slopes and finally to the waiting car, it was a great two hour trip!
I burned up the rest of my day building some driftwood items, going shopping and yes dear cleaning up my computer room! We are still waiting for UTS to come out and fix out internet problem, it’s so difficult and frustrating trying to get things like this done here!
We just got finished having another great dinner on the grill and watching American Idol, Aimee has the kitty on her lap and the dogs are ready for bed, see you tomorrow, Barry 03-31-2009

Good evening gang, Aimee and I both worked today, she got to play and work with dolphins and I took pictures was a very busy day!
Your photo this evening is another from Klein Curacao. As I was walking back along the beach I came across this old unused pier that was completely filed with these beautiful Royal Terns! The pier was close to 30 feet long and was parallel to the shore. I took a bunch of photos all in order to stitch together for a panoramic, not sure how it will look when finished but I think it may be pretty cool. I just sat there watching as these guys just stood with their heads into the wind just hanging out being fairly quiet.
I made dinner reservations at a new place called El Gancho so I need to get moving. Hope everyone is well, again thanks for all the photo comments in the past few weeks, you guys are great!
See ya, Barry 03-30-2009

Good evening all, I felt like a train ran over me this morning! Aimee said I never made a sound or moved a muscle last night I was that exhausted! I was thinking about our friend Michiel , he surfed all day yesterday and then had to go to a wedding?? No way could I have done that!
I took the dogs somewhere new today, Inca is getting sick of her same o’l trails around here, yeah I know poor Inca! We drove to Directors Bay, walked down to the beach and headed east along the coast. We walked until we came to the entrance of Spanish waters then headed up a dirt road till we hit the Directors Bay paved road and back to the car, it was really fun, different and a great way to kill an hour. The rest of the day was fairly quiet I did go do some shopping and few things around the house. At 5:30 I met our friend Sara behind the Sea Aquarium with the dogs and off we went for a one hour hike. We ran into a lady screaming for her lost dog! Scary! We took her phone number and took off in a different direction hoping to cover more area. Well moments later we found her dog but she would not come to us and ran away. I called the lady and told her we found your dog but she’s running away from us? The lady told us to just try and keep her in sight as she was on her way. Moments later the lady came running up the trail and took over where we left off. The lady called us soon after completely out of breath but thankful for our help saying she had her dog back, all’s well that ends well.
That’s about it, still tired, Barry

![]() Surfing-at-Klein-Curacao
Hey Guys, I am back online! Our UTS connection box was broken here at the house and took forever to fix! Trying to get any kind of customer service here is close to impossible and trying to get someone to come to the house was like pulling teeth and never did happen, it’s like living in the stone age when it comes to technology! So I am sorry but nothing I could do! I am sending you all five e-mails starting from last Saturday to get you caught up on what’s been going on! Read on.
What a day!! I am so fried! I have the typical “raccoon face” sunburn from wearing sunglasses all day and getting toasted by the HOT Curacao sun! Our adventure started at the Spanish water docks at 6:00. There we were met by what seemed like every surfer in Curacao all preparing to load onto one big fishing boat. You could feel the excitement in the air as we loaded the boat everyone anxious to get to Klein Curacao to ride waves that so far had only been seen on storm and wind charts on-line. So after carefully loading all the surfboards, backpacks, food and water we headed out for an hour and a half boat ride across very rough seas! It was a very stormy morning as we headed out, I really thought it was going to pour rain any second but it never happened and the only sunlight seemed to shining over the island of Klein Curacao miles ahead. Upon arriving to the island all the surfers immediately stood up and looked to the North for that magical “first glimpse” of the waves they had traveled so far to ride but instead were met with disappointment. The waves were not as big as they had expected but most felt confident that they would get bigger by noon. As I was told there was a big storm very far away that was creating these waves and they thought they would be big. So we unloaded the boat with the use of a small dingy and hauled everything to shore one load at a time. I had all my camera gear wrapped in garbage bags for safety but just the same the trip to land was scary! Once we got our gear together we all started the long hike to the north side of the island, it was only a mile and a half but seemed to take forever because of the rough terrain and all the stuff we were carrying. As the surfers launched themselves into the surf one by one I set up my camera and tripod and waited for the waves that would never come. At one point I counted over 20 surfers out there, the waves were not bad but not what these guys had hoped for but just the same I think they had a great time. By lunch time most of them had enough and called it a day and one by one slowly started the trip back to were the boat would pick us up later in the day. My friend Michiel and a few other die-hards were bound and determined to wait for a bigger and better wave that again would never come. I gave up and started walking back around 2:00 I had been cooking in the sun at standing with my tripod all morning and just plain wanted to sit down preferably somewhere out of the sun! I took my time going back taking fun pictures along the way and not realizing I was getting burnt. The coolest thing I saw were these five kite surfers that had just crossed the open ocean from Bonaire, took them 3 hours! After a brief rest followed by a helicopter they again took off towards Curacao, talk about a story to tell?? Man would that be a thrill a second! At 4:00 we all met on the beach and this time had to swim back to the boat as the dingy was in use somewhere else. Michiel helped me wrap my gear again in plastic bags, we then put it in an ice chest and together wearing swim fins we swam it to the waiting boat, talk about scary!! The boat ride back was wonderful, I watched the kite surfers cross the ocean way up ahead of us wishing I was one of them it looked like so much fun! Being on the water for four hours and standing in the sun all day really wiped me out, I was in bed by 7:30! Your photo is the master surfer himself our friend and co-worker Michiel this man can shred some waves and was really hoping for monster waves!
I am out, Sun burned regards, Barry
