Crazy Water

Crazy Water

Hi friends, it was back to work for yours truly today and still not feeling 100%!  Curacao is really hot and humid right now.  I’ve been having to carry a spare dry shirt just about everywhere I go because I am soaked just walking from the car to work!  Scored another fun crazy water shot for my lovers of modern art out there, it’s one of those “you either like it or you don’t”, I don’t think it can grow on you!!  For some strange unexplained reason I am now drawn to these bizarre photos and find myself actively searching them out and have been known to go to extremes in search of them.

Wish I had something exciting for you all tonight but my life hasn’t been to exciting lately!!  I am off tomorrow will probably take the dogs somewhere fun in the morning then get that wooden box finished.  Sorry so short and boring, Barry

Water Reflections

Water Reflections

Good evening, when I got to work this morning the ocean and the dolphin lagoons were dead calm!  Not a wave nor ripple could be seen due to the fact that there was zero wind and it was hot!  I immediately grabbed a camera and raced around shooting my “Crazy Water” photos because the reflections were just perfect this morning!  The whole lagoon was just shining gold, green and blue all reflecting from a three story resort next door.  Many of my fellow co-workers thought I had lost my mind racing around taking pictures of the water but when I came in and showed them they realized there is a photo in almost everything.  This is the only time of the year I am able to get such fun shots due to storms brewing in the area and this calm water can last for days.

At 1:30 today I took off on a fun reef dive out in front of the Sea Aquarium.  Because of the calm water the visibility wasn’t that great but I had a fun dive just the same.  I went back to find the Damselfish that was using the pillar coral as his little garden and some corals that were bleached last year.  I found the Damselfish at the same place still guarding his pillar coral garden and photographed two big star coral mounds that had severe bleaching last year but now looked alright.  I was followed most of the dive by a six foot barracuda, it made me very uncomfortable I still don’t trust those guys!  As I was getting out I found a nest of squid eggs will go back tomorrow and shoot some close-ups I think you may be able to see the babies inside now.

The Amstel Gold road race is next Saturday.  Alberto Contador winner of the Tour de France in 2007 and 2009 is here again along with many other top riders the only pro missing this year is our favorite Bart Brentjens!

Our friend Sonja who works at the Aquarium with the dolphin Papito sent me some cool pictures the other day.  They were of Papito with an octopus stuck to his face!!  She said he just played with him for ten minutes before letting him go, boy would I ever love to see and photograph that!!

That’s about it, Aimee is having a great time in Atlanta, today she was at a six hour lecture at the big Aquarium there, no way I could sit still that long!

See ya tomorrow, Barry

Cactus Top

Cactus Top

Good evening from Curacao.  Aimee and I are worn out!  Her and Emily left at 3:30 in the morning to go do the whale watch and I didn’t get home last night from diving till after midnight!  And the sad part is we have to go back and do it all over again tonight!  We didn’t see any spawning last night but we did hear reports that the Sea Aquarium reef had a little so maybe we will see something tonight?  Last night my friend Brigitte went along and carried another camera and our friend Marco joined with all his video gear but we all just ended up hanging out at around 20 feet counting the minutes which slowly turned into hours.  Between the whale and this spawning everyone at work today was so tired!  I’m sitting here pouring the coffee down, after this goes out I still have to get my camera ready, find all my dive gear, re-fill the water containers and eat in less than an hour!

I didn’t have time to dig for a photo from last nights dive so your getting a kind of plain Jane cactus photo, let’s just call this one a filler!  Oh yeah, remember the bird nest in the stuffed fish’s mouth at work?  She has three babies in their now all poking their heads out, will get another photo to send!

Have to go, bye now, Barry

bubbles

bubbles

Good evening from the Netherlands Antilles!  Hah, never used that one before.  I told someone today, you try to come up with 365 different blog greetings it gets tough.  Well let’s see what did we do in Curacao today?  Both of us had to work, if you can call it work and at 1:30 I took off on a fun little macro dive out on the reef.  The wind is still blowing like crazy and the waves are a rolling in but that didn’t stop yours truly from having a great dive.  I did find out early though that I again had to go to deeper waters to get out of the surge.  I was at 42 feet today trying to shoot something and I was still getting moved around by passing waves overhead, strange huh?  I kind of just stopped what I was doing and watched as each wave passed all the way thru the reef, the gorgonians and sea fans were really waving back and forth.  I took a bunch of close-ups today of all different kinds of coral polyps in a wide range of colors.  I noticed tonight after getting home and looking at photos that I photographed some kind of new weird see-thru shrimp.  He was sitting on one of the corals I shot, the naked eye would have never seen it and I sure I could never find this spot again.

Your photo this evening is just plain o’l bubbles.  When the big waves roll in and crash on the rocks they leave a layer of foamy salt bubbles or sea-foam in it’s place.  I love these bubbles, most of my co-workers think I have lost my mind as I lay on the bridge and shoot down into the foam, it’s just to fun to pass up.

That’s about it friends, I’ll be back tomorrow!  See ya, Barry

sunburned-cactus

Good evening all,  this is one of the strange but beautiful patterns I found on this mornings walk at Saint Joris.  This is a close-up of a prickly pear cactus with some kind of “skin disease” or maybe just sunburned?  Anyways I thought it would make a cool abstract kind of photo, it’s like they say, “there’s beauty in everything”  you just have to stop and look!

After our long relaxing walk this morning I spent 30 minutes washing the dogs always the down side to taking them to the beach but it sure is worth it.  I spent the remainder of my day working on the computer and going thru old pictures, talk about a trip down memory lane, it’s unbelievable how many photos I have taken here in the last five years!!

Not much else for you all this evening, I have the grill a blazing with 15 skewers of chicken, it smells wonderful!!  Have so much to do tonight talk to you soon, Barry

Good evening, I trust you all again received your “pile-o-blogs” I sent to you this evening, have been waiting for four days to send those to you.  We were lucky in getting the repair guy to come back to our house today and after messing around with everything and scratching his head he finally figured out we had a problem with our computer.  He said we needed a new network card and sent me to a place very close by to get one.  I hauled my whole computer inside expecting the worse but instead was met by kindness and a speedy on the spot repair.  So after taking it apart and cleaning it, adding a new network card and a new “D” drive (for free) I was back in business!  The place I took it to was called the PC Clinic very nice guy in there!

This was just a cool design in nature kind of picture I came across the other day while out hiking and thought you might like it as well.  All these rocks were fused to one bigger piece of rock.  They look like they are just laying there loose but I couldn’t find one that was even a little bit willing to come home with me.

Our little kitty is doing great, she is learning so much and eating on her own not to mention she sleeps all night long.  We are hoping her new family will take her soon before she gets to used to us and her surroundings.  Many thanks for the ocean of kitty picture compliments, would not have been possible with out Aimee’s help!

Glad to be back on line sure hope it lasts.  See you tomorrow, Barry

crazy-water-1

crazy-water-1

Hey gang,  I haven’t sent one of these out in a long time and have forgotten what number this is??  On the mornings when the water is calm I am able to get these “crazy water” shots from the reflections of the buildings across our little lagoon we have, and of course no two are ever the same!  In the Photoshop here we have a lot of people running around with camera’s on any given day.  One would think that any photographer would be all over this cool scene?? But time after time it’s just me with the others walking by just laughing at me or shaking their heads wondering why I am still taking these types of photos well, I just plain think they are cool!

Today was one of the busiest days so far leaving me totally wiped out and not wanting to do anything else after work.  Aimee and her mom and sister all took the dogs to Saint Joris this evening for a fun hike, it sounds like they all had a great time!  Tomorrow morning I am going to get on my bike for the first time and take the dogs for a nice long ride, let’s hope it doesn’t rain??

I am off to bed, see ya, Barry

driftwood-cross

driftwood-cross

Hi friends, we figured since we have had so much fun with our driftwood this year that it was only appropriate to use it as our Christmas card.  This was another very cool piece we found this year like the “scary face” I sent you for Halloween.  This all natural cross was found in the water at Saint Joris on a very weathered five foot tall board, the cross itself is about 12 inches tall.  The funny thing is on the same board at the other end it also has a dolphin face as well, what are the odds, needless to say we will be keeping these little treasures.  It took me 3 days to figure out how to get the lights behind the cross.  I tried everything!  We ended up decorating a 10 foot wooden pole with solid lights.  We then strapped our driftwood cross to a big brick, turned out all the lights at night and prayed for the best, one would think this would be easy but shooting Christmas lights is a real challenge.  Anyways, something different is always good right!!

I want to just say Thanks again to everyone who helped us again this year, you know who you are!!  I am shocked at how fast this year went and really can’t believe it’s almost over??  I am in high hopes of getting to meet some of the great people on my daily e-mail list some day, I know so many of you only through cyber-space!  We hope you all have a great holiday season and a safe new year, lets make 2009 our best year yet!!

Merry Christmas early, we love you all, Barry, Aimee, Inca, Indi and of course “the Cat”!!
