Hi friends, remember Sharon? Yes the same Sharon that I introduced a few years back to our friend in the States Luke and as you may or may not remember she flew to the States, met Luke and well, you’ll have to wait for the movie! Everyone has been asking for Beach Glass photos so today I finally got the ball rolling. I picked Sharon up at 9:30 and we drove to the same spot Aimee and I find all this incredible glass. Almost any beach in Curacao has beach glass due to the fact that all trash once was and some still is being dumped into the sea! You know the o’l saying, “out of sight, out of mind”. Beach Glass in the States is getting harder and harder to find as everyone now is into collecting these beautiful glass gems. The glass we find here has been on this beach for hundreds of years, so imagine if you will just how smooth and perfect is now, we say, “it’s ripe for the picking”! On any given day Aimee and I come home with every color you can imagine with Red being the HOTTEST most sought after color to find! Who would have ever guessed that all the bottles that have been tossed into the sea would someday make their way back onto our shores as colorful pieces of treasure and collected like gold nuggets in Alaska! Sharon was absolutely fantastic today, she said the shell-full of red pieces that she was holding looked like yummy candy and proceeded to give it a try, I think it looked better than it tasted. For those of you interested in a fun afternoon of beach combing head over to Caracas-bay, (near the tugboat), there is always great glass on all these small beaches.

So after a fun morning of playing with glass I took Sharon back home and then went out to do my weekend shopping and laundry run! Here in Curacao we tip the kids that carry out our groceries, not sure if they even make a minimum wage or get paid by the hour. Today when I left the grocery store being followed by my “kid carrying the bags” I said to him, “it’s real slippery here by my car so be careful”! No sooner did I get the last word out of my mouth and I slipped and fell right on my butt and could not get up because it was so slippery! The kid quickly set my groceries down and was trying to help but there was nothing he could do but watch in disbelief! I finally got up but was soaked in mud and water, talk about embarrassing!!

That’s pretty much my day, see you tomorrow, Barry

Good evening, the puppies are wearing us out!! Wow talk about a lot of work!!! Our days now have to start at 5:30am with waking them up and quickly taking them out to pee. We then carry them upstairs and feed them and let them swim in their water bowl, then seconds later we have to carry them back downstairs and outside again to let them do their business!! Then we bring them back upstairs for some play-time!! It’s crazy time for the next hour and every 10 minutes we have to take them out to pee again, they have the bladder the size of a pea. Finally right before work we take them out one more time then take them back downstairs to the puppy coral where they sleep for the next 3 hours. Aimee and I are so worn out by the time we go to work! Also once they go to bed we have to re-mop the whole up stairs and take showers again before work, it’s quite a workout!! One of them has officially been adopted by our friend Tom and his family who will soon be moving here to live from California, so one down three to go!!

Here’s the winners of the World Famous Dive Bus Hut “Clean-up the reef day”!! This is Debby and Judith who in one dive brought back so much trash from off the reef, it’s folks like this that are doing their best to safe this planet!! Years ago when we first moved here this reef had a lot of trash and tires but now even with 20 divers looking for trash it’s hard to find, that says a lot about how well this program is working. Both of these ladies will be doing a dolphin swim with me at the Dolphin Academy soon, I think it’s a perfect way to say thanks for a job well done!!

Our air-co repair guy just left, we had all the units serviced so it’s off to bed now!! Later, Barry

Good evening folks, something really different for you all this evening. I am starting a new project which will involve “the other side of Curacao” the stuff we all wish would just go away but only seems to be getting worse. Topics I will be chasing are trashed and polluted beaches, effects of global warming on our corals, illegal dumping of raw sewage and of course the oil refinery we have here. Yeah I know everywhere has these problems but I am in hopes that I can help raise awareness in our area and spark some interest in getting some of this stuff cleaned up. Our environment is really taking a beating right now, not just here but everywhere and everyday no matter where I go it seems like I am knee deep in trash and just want to show you a bit of Curacao that others never see, it’s like they say “not all that glitters is gold” This is Playa Ascension, one of the most beautiful area’s in Curacao if you can see past the insane amount of trash. Believe it or not this used to be one of the top turtle breeding areas on the island but with the trash the way it is clogging the beach the poor turtles can’t find a safe place to lay their eggs? We had to keep the dogs on their leashes here this morning as the water is very polluted and the trash as you can see is everywhere. There is good news, for the past year or more groups have been coming here and bagging trash, not on this side but on the other. When we were on the other side this morning we photographed a pile of tires that had been removed from the water and were waiting to be picked up. So if any of you locals are looking for a clean-up project this is good place to start, give me a ring and I will lend a helping hand as well.

Aimee is telling me to hurry as she is taking me somewhere for dinner and won’t tell me where?? Talk to you all tomorrow, Barry

Hey guys, this is a funny shot of Indi at our driftwood collecting area at Saint Joris taking a break from her fun morning of being wild and crazy! I did not put that hat there, it was freshly deposited in the mornings tide and was a perfect addition to this photo and it’s probably still there. What trash?? Oh that, yeah well we are not without our fair share of recyclable’s that seem to find their way to these shores on a daily basis, but amongst all that trash we find little treasures! I just so happen to have such a little “beach treasure” shot for you and will send it out tomorrow. I am sure most of you are saying, “my how Indi has grown”, and your right! I am in high hopes this is as big as she will get. That tongue of hers is just so funny, she can hardly keep that thing in her mouth, it always just kind of slides off to one side!

The kitten is doing great! Aimee went back to where I found it this morning looking for others but none to be found? She also took the kitten to the vet today and came home with nothing bad to say, it’s a very healthy little cat and we still are in need of a home for it? Hint, hint!!

It’s pouring rain still, geez when will it end!! Talk to you tomorrow, Barry
