Car Pile

Car Pile

Good evening readers.  Once again we woke to a whole bunch of rain!  It’s amazing how a rainy morning completely changes the plans you made the night before.  Our little Aimee left the house at 6:00am to go help with the whale and was back home by 8:00.  I spent the morning getting my camera ready then off we went in search of tanks to rent.  Eva and I finally made it to the Car-Pile dive site around 11:00 which is located out in front of Breezes Hotel at 100 plus feet!  This is one of the top five best dives in Curacao and is steadily getting more and more famous.  The bottom is completely littered with old car parts, wheels, metal beams, barrels, and so much more making it one of the coolest dives in town!!  This is our friend Eva above the front end of an old car!!  The round cluster of sponges at the bottom is where a wheel would have gone and the other big piece of yellow sponge above it is an old wheel well and fender with tall sponges growing out of the engine compartment!  Come on use those imaginations!!  We had a real fun dive, I think this was at around 95 feet and it was pretty dark down there today with no sun overhead.  On our way back up the slope we came across a big eel that was out hunting so we followed him for around 10 minutes all over the reef, was strange to see him out during the day.  So we had a pretty fun first dive, tonight we are meeting Dirk for a coral spawning dive in front of Aqua-Electra on the double reef they have there, we jump in at 9:30!!

After washing dive gear, we ate lunch and then went to the store, after we all took a short nap, it’s been a fast paced day!  I’m getting ready to get the grill going, then re-build the camera for tonight, load the car again and hopefully make it to bed by midnight tonight!!

Gotta go, Cheers, Barry
