Below are the amazing deep-sea finds discovered off the coast of St.Eustatius (Statia) by scientists from the Smithsonian Institution using a five person manned submersible from Substation Curacao. The 2.5 million dollar submersible called the Curasub can reach depths of 1000 feet, it has a robotic arm, a vacuum system, collecting basket and much more making it very attractive to science. The Curasub is carried on research vessel called the Chapman and can be taken anywhere in the Caribbean. Many of the species below are most likely "new species" and are currently being described or studied.
